Incoming 6th Grade Summer Reading List & Form

Phillipsburg Middle School
Suggested Summer Reading

Incoming 6th Graders
  • During the summer, incoming 6th grade students are strongly encouraged to read at least one (1) Accelerated Reader book.
  • The books you select must be appropriate for your age, reading ability, and must be ones that you have NOT previously read.
  • You may borrow your books from the Phillipsburg Free Public Library. You may also read a book you have purchased as long as it is on the Accelerated Reader List. The Accelerated Reader list can be found at arbookfind.com.

Extra Credit Assignment:
      • You must complete a reading log for the book you read. These reading logs will need to be handed in to your teacher at the start of the school year. A copy of the reading log is linked below. You do not need to fill out all of the boxes.
      • When you return to school, you will be required to take the Accelerated Reader test for the book you read over the summer since the AR platform is not open over the summer. You may use your completed reading log as a reference when taking the test. Therefore, the more you write on your reading log, the easier the test might be.

Due Date:
      • All tests must be taken by Thursday, August 28, 2025. Completed reading logs will also be collected by your ELA teacher no later than August 28, 2025.
      • The reading logs and Accelerated Reader test(s) will count towards extra credit for your first marking period reading grade and will earn you your first Liner Paw of the year. These tests will also count toward the reading requirement for the school year.
